Keyboard BenQ AM 805 - wireless freedom as a benefit!

BenQ is one of the world's top producers of digital displays, mobile phones, scanners and keyboards, and we are a technology leader in digital projectors, storage devices, wireless technologies and electronic components. It’s not a secret that the basic direction of its activity are monitors - very excellent monitors! But as well as any large company, BenQ aspires to get the main advantage-grounds in the market and for these purpuse it is necessary to promote an original devices in a special moment. So the same happens with X-Touch 800 and with AM 805 also. Why? There is no problem here, everything is guiet clear: keyboard is an original design solution and  wireless as a benefit. Beauty, isn't it?

Package

Did you ever had a chance to face with package minimalism? We do not joke by saying that - there are no leaflets in a box as Logitech used and diskettes with software, comfort guidelines and user guide – something as Genius like to put into package. Of course, there is a power adapter USB-PS/2 in addition, that once again demonstrates us - a wireless "mouse" channel can be get on the USB-bus, which is rather faster than PS/2 port. But, what else can we find in this flat package? We can say - nothing, except of a keyboard, a mouse, a cradle, AA alkaline batteries and a CD with software.

Keyboard BenQ AM 805

As we wrote above, this wireless device is alike X-Touch 800 keuboard, we can even say a "sister”, except for weight - AM 805 it is much heavier, because of AA alkaline batteries. BenQ's X-Structure technology aims to make the keys click softer and easier and as less noisy as possible. Nevertheless, a keyboard will be good for users with habits - it's a got function keys in groups of three, all buttons are on their regular places. On the top of a keyboard there is a digital block of keys, below are action buttons F1 - F12. By the way, pressing key F-key, left top corner, you can reprogram the function keys. That’s all with basic office functions here, let’s begin with an advanced media control.

In the right part of the keyboard there are keys for management of a player. Their set is standard and completely repeats virtual keys as in Windows Media Player are. The Most interesting is a volume control - use of a rheostat, a better solution and a real comfort. Mouse BenQ M800

We did not test any mouse from BenQ before, so BenQ M800 will be a first one, sadly, that it is a wireless one, because such variant as usual possesses a number of lacks. We spoke about that fact so many times and can repeat it once more - the radio channel cannot provide good capacity, so processor of the mouse cannot always provide and preserve a constant connection with a receiver. Also due to this wireless mouse cannot provide smooth work of the cursor and have feature to be late behind movement of a hand. But there is an exception - a unique perfect mouse without those "wireless" lacks - Logitech MX1000.

So, mouse M800 has a usual design, in other words - without excesses. There is nothing particular nowadays in wireless mouse and you can find such one in each computer shop, nevertheless, let’s note the main pleasant features that increase ease of use and comfort. The case of a mouse is from rough plastic  - pleasant to touch. Mouse has great skids that make it literally glide with a slight touch of your hand. Adjustable sensitivity and cliques are soft. There is a button for choosing a radio channel – you can tune into your favorite Internet radio station or playlist with a single press, that’s good, but any other additional functions our mouse does not have.

Receiver BenQ

With receiver everything is simple – one button and two cords. Opportunity to operate on two channels means that two devices can be used with one receiver. No excesses and everything is very cool – by the way, all products from BenQ are always very stylish. Both devices have decent battery lives and they communicate with the computer using a receiver. This receiver occupies and derives power from the PS2 ports on the motherboard meant for keyboard and mouse. A USB port based receiver would have been better, twice faster PS/2 that’s why we recommend to use USB. There is a usual adapterfor PS/2 port in the package  What can we say about this set also - 27 MHz wireless for a bulletproof connection, that’s also good!

Application

It was interesting to test the wireless set, because an opportunity to check up parameters appeared which making it easier to turn up the volume and point and click without moving from your couch. Feeling of a comfort when you can work your computer while sitting on your couch – that’s even sounds good. So, you get no need to change the way you work! This time we have decided to test BenQ completely and have replaced with set AM 805 ausual set from Logitech (Ultra X and mouse G5). Such "replacement" shows all possible lacks in ergonomics of the keyboard and the mouse. Well, what can we say here … Certainly, the difference is visible. For rather convenient work it is necessary to adjust rotary legs, on the bottom part of the keyboard, because only patient and trained person could use such keyboard without them. Although, after organizing of your own "workplace" for yourself, understands that to use AM 805 is rather suitable. Precision refinements to key shape, feel, identification, and layout make keystrokes effortless and sure. The soft of keys is provided with rubber membranes. At the same time smooth form of this keyboard does not allow to use it without efforts multimedia functions AM 805.

Wireless mouse is isextremely comfortable and allows to improve your work, but we do not recommend you to use it for playing or doing any design. Thankfully the 800 dpi resolution makes the mouse highly responsive and good forusual office; optical mouse works without any problem. That’s why we decided not to use this set in game testing, because it is rather strict and only a few one can pass brilliantly this test in Warcraft 3.

Conclusion

Finally, we can say that BenQ did not disappoint us - the device takes a worthy place among the keyboards with medium price for office needs. We do not recommend it for game station: wireless technologies – to our point of view, is not a right choice for this purpose, better to use wire solutions, but it's up to you. To work with text using AM 805 is good, especially recommended for advance users who are used to typing fast, though required some time for adaptation. As we wrote above, testing was spent at complete replacement of a keyboard and a mouse (about three weeks), thus, we have got a clear look to position and rush of BenQ AM 805 in SOHO market. So a question have come - to buy or not? Of course, depends on you, from our side we recommend to look close, attentively to this device, because on your table there should be a place for beautiful things, and such set is beautiful indeed!
